Uncle Earl

I went out last night to see Uncle Earl play at the Spitz near Liverpool Street. Anna came along after the first band finished. We had a great time, Uncle Earl played a great set despite being sick. It was a nice venue as well, very much a folky club.

School is going well. I got my final essay back from Roger and got a 70 so a first. I’m quite pleased with that as I worked very hard on the essay. I’ve started collecting more reading for my dissertation and am forming a more concrete outline in my head. I’m excited to actually get something down on paper.

I’ve finally moved this site over. Now hopefully I’ll start updating it frequently.

Thursday night I went out with a friend and we had a nice meal in Leicester square at this french/italian restaurant. Then we walked up to the Covent Garden Odeon and saw Pan’s Labyrinth. It was a really good movie, the blending of fantasy and reality both in image and plot worked really well. My only qualm with the movie itself was its needless graphic depiction of things. I guess it was trying hard not to be a kids movie and the director made such masterpieces as Blade II and Hellboy, but still it didn’t need a lot of the more gory shots that were in it. The story itself is quite nice though and I would recommend seeing it.

Last night I went out and saw Pop Levi at the Water Rats in Kings Cross. The first two bands were all right, well actually pretty bad. Pop Levi were quite good. He definitely takes a lot of influence from varying blues styles and incorporates older themes into his music. It kinda reminded me of a modern day Sun Ra (not that I ever saw Sun Ra) but his whole otherworldly concept and tight control of the musicianship in his band.
