Electrical Tape
I decided yesterday to hang my (long!) string of christmas tree lights around my room. The only tape I had was white electrical tape which blended in with the wall, which I thought was great. So I went around making nice little borders on things and designs and finally using all the lights up (it’s really long). It looked amazing so I left it to go have some dinner. Every once in a while I’d come back to my room to check and one part might’ve fallen down. So that’s ok I have tons of tape, and I taped kind of sparingly when I was first putting it up. So I’d add another bit of tape and put that section back up. Well anyway this continued all night, and right before I went to bed I ran out of tape. Right before I fell asleep I did sorta of a visual check around the room it all looked ok. How wrong I was. All night I’ve been woken up by falling bits of christmas tree lighting, especially the ones over my bed that hit my head. I can’t exactly leave them hanging as they’re right where I’m sleeping. Not only that some lighting on the other side of my room managed to fall off the wall and knock by bass guitar onto the floor cause a huge crash which I mistook for my futon frame breaking the risers it’s sitting on when I woke (very suddenly) up. It’s five o’clock now, and my throat really hurts. I remembered there’s a few pieces of tape when Esther tried unsuccesfully (I should’ve learned) to tape up some lights in the kitchen still on the kitchen walls. I’m hoping with maybe the addition of those I’ll at least be able to secure things enough to get some sleep.
In other news I went into SOAS yesterday. I got three really cool books out of the library, two for my thesis and one was a sort of narrative/journal of a woman on a dig in Iraq in 1950. The latter is really interesting, it reads like a little novel but about excavation. I also signed up for evening Arabic courses at UCL (SOAS was full). I’m really looking forward to that.
